Meet the Team

The City’s Code Enforcement team is comprised of Officers and administrators who are passionate about building a safe and vibrant community.

A group shot of the Code Enforcement Team.

Customer Service Representatives and Community Advocates are frontline staff that receive citizen requests and engage neighborhoods and stakeholders on how to keep their properties up to code standards. They can also assist with records request and paying a fine. You can reach them during business hours at 850-891-7007, send a request through the DigiTally phone app, or send an email: code.enforcement@talgov.com. Please note: As of July 1, 2021, Florida Statute was amended to prohibit code inspectors designated by boards of county commissioners from initiating investigations of potential violations of codes and ordinances through anonymous complaints. Persons who report potential violations will be required to provide his or her name and address to the respective local government before an investigation will occur.

Resilience Officers, also known as Code Enforcement Officers, inspect properties to ensure compliance to city codes to improve public safety, environmental health, and quality of life. In collaboration with other City departments and outside agencies, officers help to implement initiatives to foster vibrant neighborhoods and to reduce community hazards, especially those that can be made worse during natural and man-made disasters. Officers also routinely attend community events and neighborhood meetings to educate the community about City Codes and how to keep our community safe and healthy. Contact us if you would like an officer to attend one of your meetings.

Compliance and Abatement Coordinators prepare them to appear before the Code Magistrate or Municipal Code Enforcement Board. When there are urgent public health cases, the Coordinators can expedite compliance by implementing an appropriate abatement project and assess the cost to owners in the form of fines and liens.

The Code Enforcement Supervisor manages the day-to-day field operations associated with the enforcement of City codes and ensures all officers are well trained and informed of applicable Florida Statues. The Supervisor also oversees the path to case compliance, including special case resolution and interdepartmental tasks forces such as the Condemnation Review Team.

The Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) directs the Code Enforcement Division and leads the City’s long-range planning and implementation of initiatives to protect our people, our environment, and our buildings in the face of major hazards, disasters, and climate related events. The CRO partners across City department and with external agencies to implement the Community Resilience Plan.
